“I don’t play any sports, so getting to be a part of a team made me feel important and crucial. Every Monday and Thursday I look forward to [MHBT] all day…When I dance, I feel like I can be anything I want – I feel happy. I feel like nobody can do anything to make me sad.” – 5th grade student
Danceworks Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap (MHBT) is an innovative educational dance program, providing arts and physical education programming to underserved urban youth in low-income, central city schools. Modeled after the successful NYC schools program featured in the hit documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, Danceworks MHBT teaches life skills and increases physical activity by integrating tap and ballroom dance into regular school curriculum. The classes culminate in performances at each school as well as an annual dance competition.
Colectivo is a proud longtime supporter of Mad Hot Ballroom through our sponsorship of Escuela Fratney’s participation and through fundraising sales of Mad Hot and Bold coffee!
Danceworks 2014 Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap Competition takes place Saturday, May 17 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. To celebrate, Colectivo will sell limited edition Mad Hot coffee mugs and 12oz bags of Mad Hot and Bold coffee in our cafes May 12 – 16, with proceeds benefitting the program.
