Sourcing Trip: Antioquia and Cauca, Colombia

In December 2016, Colectivo traveled to the departments of Antioquia and Cauca in Colombia to meet up with producers Pedro Echavarría and Leonardo Henao Triana and their team at Pergamino Cafe and Exporters.

Pedro is responsible for Pergamino cafe operations and leads a program called Allied Producers, which connects outstanding regional producers with the both the mill and specialty retailers around the world. He is also the son of Pedro Echavarría Sr., a lifelong coffee producer and founder of Finca Santa Barbara. Leonardo oversees Quality Control at the mill and is another strong leader in the Allied Producers program.

Our director of coffee Al Liu, sales manager James Gunja, and videographer and photographer Kelly Anderson were fortunate to have such experienced guides! We visited Allied Producers farms and had the opportunity to cup some very high-quality coffee along the way. We were also excited to learn how producers participating in the program experiment with innovative projects such as organic vermiculture (worm poop composting) and new fermentation practices.

Keep an eye out for some excellent Seasonal and Featured Farm coffees from Colombia in the year to come as we highlight the results of the great work happening in Antioquia and Cauca. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy a few pics from our trip!
